Before a single step of the trek, every pilgrim needs a yatra slip. This guide covers Vaishno Devi yatra registration: how to get it, what it is for, and the rules around it.
What is the yatra slip (parchi)?
The Yatra Registration Slip, often called the yatra parchi, is your proof of registration for the pilgrimage. It is issued by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB), the only authority permitted to issue it — no private agency can sell you a genuine one. Each slip carries a specific number, and in recent years an RFID card has been added for tracking and crowd management along the route.
How to complete Vaishno Devi yatra registration online
- Visit the official Shrine Board portal. Registration can be completed on the official website rather than through any third-party app or agent.
- Fill in your details. Name, ID type and number, and your planned date of travel for each member of your group.
- Submit and download the slip. Print a copy and also save a digital copy on your phone as a backup.
Registration is free of charge and can even be completed on the same day as your pilgrimage if needed, though registering a day or two ahead avoids any last-minute rush.
Registering in person at Katra
If you would rather register in person, Yatra Registration Counters (YRC) are set up at the Katra bus stand and nearby. Registration is also available at the Jammu airport and at Vaishnavi Dham and Sarasvati Dham in Jammu for those arriving from further away. Counters are computerised, so the process is usually quick outside peak season.
What you need to carry
- A valid government-issued photo ID (such as Aadhaar, passport, voter ID or driving licence) for every member of your group, including children where applicable.
- Your printed yatra slip, checked at the Banganga entry gate against your ID for verification.
- Patience during Navratri and weekends, when counters and checkpoints are busiest.
Timing your registration
Try to register close to when you actually plan to begin walking from Banganga, rather than hours or a day in advance, since the slip is meant to be used within a limited window after issue. If you are staying with us the night before, register the same morning you plan to start the climb.
Plan your stay around your registration
Once your yatra slip is sorted, book your room at the Bhawan so you have somewhere to rest as soon as you arrive. See rooms and rates or message us on WhatsApp.
